A mixed-media exploration of contemporary fine craft by some of Ireland’s most respected artists runs from June 3 to October 15, 2012.
Karen Hennessy, CEO, Crafts Council of Ireland, opened the exhibition on Sunday, June 3rd.
The utilitarian nature of traditional crafts has been dramatically subverted by many contemporary fine craft artists. In this exciting exhibition, basketry, wood turning, ceramics and glass move from traditional vessels to exciting expressions of form and material, conveying ideas, visual poetry and delight while still retaining vestiges of their original function.
Participating artists include Liam Flynn, Roger Bennett, Emmett Kane, and Keiran Higgins working in wood, Joe Hogan working in basketry, Jack Doherty and Mandy Parslow working in ceramics, and Karl Harron and Lucinda Robertson working in glass.
